Williamsport, Ind – Sam Briles, 79 of 2532 SE 33rd St, Okeechobee, Fla formerly of Williamsport, died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday March 26, 1989 at Raulerson Memorial Hospital in Okeechobee. He had been ill for 3 months.  Born near Covington in Vermillion County April 6, 1909, he was the son of Bernard and Mary E. Hall Briles.  He had lived in Williamsport most of his life and in Okeechobee for the past 18 years. He was married Dec 15, 1928 in Williamsport to Elizabeth L. Bannon. She survives.  Also surviving: two sons, Richard S. Briles of Williamsport and Larry W. Briles of Attica; a daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Mary) Stingle of Okeechobee; 7 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one great grandson; three brothers, Fred and Jake Briles, both of Okeechobee and Glenn Briles of Fowler; five sisters, Essie Thomas and Mary Newlin, both of Lafayette; Bernice Johnson of Harvey, Ill; Catherine Thomas of Port Richey, Fla and Doris Jean Doss of Covington.  He was preceded in death by one brother one sister and one son.  Mr. Briles had owned and operated Sam Briles Trucking and Hauling Service. He later was employed with his son, Richard for Briles Excavating retiring in 1972.  He also had driven a school bus in Williamsport for 20 years.  He was a member of F&AM Lodge 335 in Pine Village for 29 years.  He was a former member of the Lions Club and Williamsport Town Board.  Funeral service 11 a.m. EST Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home in Williamsport with Rev. Don Williams officiating. Burial: Highland Cemetery, Williamsport. Visitation after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

  Williamsport—Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Fisher Funeral Home Chapel, Williamsport, for Sam Briles, 79, 2531 Southeast 33rd St., Okeechobee, Fla., with the Rev. Don Williams officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Williamsport. He died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, March 26, 1989 in Raulerson Memorial Hospital, Okeechobee. Williamsport—Sam Briles, 79, Okeechobee, Fla., died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, March 26, 1989 following an illness of one week.
  He was born April 6, 1909 near Covington, the son of Bernard and Mary E. Hall Briles. He lived in Williamsport most of his life and in Okeechobee the past 18 years. He was married Dec. 15, 1928 in Williamsport to Elizabeth L. Bannon, who survives.

  He owned and operated Sam Briles Trucking and Hauling for several years and was involved in Briles excavating with his son, Dick, retiring in 1972. He also drove a school bus for Williamsport School for 20 years.

  He was a member of F&AM Lodge, Pine Village, a former member of Lions club and also had served on the Williamsport Town Board.

  Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Richard S., Williamsport, and Larry W., Attica; one daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Mary) Stingle, Okeechobee; three brothers, Fred and Jake, both of Okeechobee, and Glenn, Fowler; five sisters, Elsie Thomas and Mary Newlin, both of Lafayette; Bernice Johnson, Harvey, Ill.; Catherine Thomas, Port Richey, Fla., and Doris Jean Doss, Covington; seven grandchildren; six step grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by one son, bob, one brother and one sister.

  Friends may call Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Home, Williamsport. Funeral services will be in Fisher Chapel Thursday. – thanks to S
